The word "Chakra" is derived from Sanskrit and means "wheel".  The Chakras themselves are spinning circular energy centers that exist in our etheric bodies.  They serve as gateways for the flow of energy and life force into our physical bodies.

Each chakra is associated with a certain part of the body and a certain organ, which it provides with the energy it needs to function effectively. The seven main chakras also correspond to the seven main glands in the endocrine system.

A blockage in the energy flow of the chakras or an excessive energy flow can cause an imbalance in our well being.  This can manifest at the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level.  Giving Reiki to the chakras can help the energy flow without disturbance so that a natural state of balance is restored.


The Seven Main Chakras described :

1. The Root or Base Chakra lies in the area of the coccyx in men and between the ovaries in women.  It is the seat of physical vitality, the fundamental urge to survive and creative expression.
2. The Sacral Chakra is positioned slightly below the navel.  It is the center of the sexual energy and extra-sensory perception.
3. The Solar Plexus Chakra lies slightly above the navel.  This is the seat of all emotions and feelings.  The Power and wisdom center.
4. The Heart Chakra is positioned in the middle of the chest, at the height of the heart.  It is the center of compassion, devotion and love.
5. The Throat Chakra is positioned at the throat area.  It is a chakra of communication and self-expression.
6. The Third Eye lies in the middle of the forehead.  It is the intuition center and for inner wisdom.  It is the seat of the will, intellect and the spirit.
7. The Crown Chakra is positioned at the top of the head.  It is our opening to the universe and represents the highest consciousness, connecting us with our spiritual self.
